Published 9 August, 2026

Six PS5 blockbusters in just four weeks: fall 2026 is shaping up like a highway on-ramp pileup, with six gaming giants all trying to squeeze through at once. Here’s your essential guide to the releases you can’t afford to miss.

Every year, the back-to-school season is a pivotal moment in the gaming calendar. But 2026 is cranking things up to eleven: with Grand Theft Auto VI set for November 19, publishers are stampeding into the late August–September window, creating an unprecedented traffic jam that’s about to put your schedule—and your wallet—to the test.

Star Wars Zero Company: The Clone Wars XCOM kicks things off

This one opens the season on August 27 for PS5. And that timing is no accident: by launching a week before the September tidal wave, Star Wars Zero Company grabs a clear media spotlight while its rivals fight for attention.

Developed by Bit Reactor—a studio founded by Firaxis veterans (XCOM, Civilization)—with support from Respawn Entertainment (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Apex Legends) and Lucasfilm Games, all under the EA umbrella. The DNA is crystal clear: pure turn-based tactical action, single-player, in the best XCOM reboot tradition.

The story unfolds at the twilight of the Clone Wars. You play as Hawks, a former Republic officer leading an unconventional squad—think Jedi, clone, and Mandalorian bounty hunter—up against a brand-new galactic threat. Between missions, you’ll upgrade your base and gather intel through a network of informants. The main character is fully customizable—looks and class—and your choices are said to have real impact on the story.

The Blood of Dawnwalker: Ex-CD Projekt devs go all-in September 3

Arguably the most closely watched launch of the season. The Blood of Dawnwalker is the debut title from Rebel Wolves, a Polish studio founded by CD Projekt alumni and led by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Published by Bandai Namco. Launches September 3 on PS5.

The setting: 14th-century Southeastern Europe, in a gothic dark fantasy where you play Coen, a “Dawnwalker”—half-human, half-vampire. The narrative is built around a countdown timer—a limited number of days to save your sister—forcing you to constantly juggle priorities.

Gameplay-wise, day and night are two different beasts: daytime focuses on swordplay, with a directional blocking system that makes you pick one of four angles to attack or parry, while nighttime unleashes your vampire powers. All powered by Unreal Engine 5, with a team that’s grown a lot since the studio’s early days.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword: Capcom moves up its date (and its strategy)

The return of a franchise that’s been MIA for nearly two decades—a huge deal for anyone who grew up wielding a katana on PS2. Onimusha: Way of the Sword lands September 4 on PS5.

Unusually, the date has been moved up by three weeks: originally set for September 25, Capcom decided to dodge a head-on collision with Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall, both dropping on the 24th. The Japanese publisher pulled a similar move this year with Pragmata.

Expect a dark, supernatural feudal Japan ravaged by Genma—demonic creatures straight from hell. You play a lone samurai wielding the Oni Gauntlet, in brutal swordfights that reward precision and close-quarters combat. A demo’s been out since early summer, and Capcom has already had to publicly address feedback that the difficulty was too low, promising a real challenge in the final release.

Marvel’s Wolverine: The PS5 exclusive everyone’s waiting for

The PlayStation event of the season—and probably the year. First announced in 2021, Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine drops September 15 exclusively on PS5 and PS5 Pro. No PC or Xbox version in sight: the PlayStation Store page is silent on other platforms.

The studio has confirmed the date several times, including at San Diego Comic-Con, with a trailer focused on the relationship between Logan and Jean Grey—the emotional core of the adventure. Team X is in, facing off against villains like Sabretooth and Mystique. The story is brand new, set on Earth-1048—the same alternate universe as the Marvel’s Spider-Man series.

The tone is crystal clear: PEGI 18, with graphic violence that’s true to the character—a sharp break from the studio’s previous superhero games. Single-player only, fully offline.

Control Resonant: Remedy returns—and reinvents everything

After years of anticipation, the sequel to Control lands September 24. And Remedy Entertainment is taking a bold new direction: where the first game was a third-person shooter with telekinesis, Control Resonant leans into action-RPG with close-quarters combat—almost a beat ‘em up.

You play as Dylan Faden in a haunted Manhattan, on the brink of destruction by paranatural forces. The studio keeps its love for impossible architecture and bizarre worlds, but this time the environments are much more open and varied than the Oldest House—while keeping that signature supernatural vibe.

Silent Hill: Townfall: The fog rolls out of America and into Scotland

Same day as Control Resonant, same traffic jam: Silent Hill: Townfall arrives September 24, as a PS5 console exclusive (also on Steam and Epic Games Store). Developed by Scottish studio Screen Burn—formerly No Code, creators of Stories Untold and Observation—and co-published by Konami and Annapurna Interactive.

Forget the foggy American small town: the action shifts to 1996 on St. Amelia, a fictional windswept Scottish island. You follow Simon Ordell, an American who wakes up there with no idea why, and whose investigation soon crosses paths with the mysterious Zoe Ellis.

The game’s standout idea is the “CRTV”—a portable cathode-ray TV that replaces the series’ iconic radio. It’s not just for atmosphere: it helps you spot objectives, detect creatures through walls, and uncover narrative clues via glitchy video signals. A big comeback for a franchise that’s sold over 17 million copies, riding the wave of the Silent Hill 2 remake’s success.

Second wave: The other PS5 releases this fall

Beyond the blockbusters, fall brings a tasty lineup of quieter—but no less intriguing—releases, depending on your tastes.

Heads up if you’re checking old release calendars: Phantom Blade Zero is no longer part of the fall lineup. The “kungfupunk” action game from China’s S-Game, originally set for September 9, has been pushed to October 29, 2026 on PS5—a delay of about fifty days.

Liang “Soulframe” Qiwei, the studio’s CEO and game director, explained the decision as a choice to polish the game further rather than patch it post-launch. Development is now said to be complete, and a lengthy new gameplay sequence accompanies the opening of preorders. The title dodges the September pileup… only to land dangerously close to GTA 6.

One thing’s for sure: PS5’s fall 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most stacked seasons the console’s ever seen. Your move: samurai, vampire, clawed mutant, or masked killer?
