Gamescom 2026: The Most-Watched Trailers Revealed—And the Winner Isn’t Who You Think
The lights in Cologne may be out, but on YouTube, the trailer wars are just heating up. The official ranking of the most-watched showcase trailers just dropped—and the podium is full of surprises.
Opening Night Live 2026 shattered its own records this week, racking up 5.8 million hours watched and peaking at 1.74 million concurrent viewers—up 27% from 2025. Between the reveal of The Witcher 3 Remastered, the Final Fantasy VII Revelation trailer, and the world premiere of Nodusfall, all eight promised announcements delivered live. But four days later, YouTube’s numbers tell a very different story.

YouTube podium: three heavyweights, one upset
Digging through the stats on The Game Awards’ YouTube channel, one fan tallied up the views for each trailer four days after the show. And the big winner isn’t The Witcher 3 or Final Fantasy VII—it’s Nodusfall, a brand-new IP revealed in a world premiere, taking the crown with 245,000 views. That’s a landslide victory, proving that raw curiosity for a mysterious new project can outshine even the biggest franchises—especially when the trailer hits just right.
Next up, CD Projekt Red grabs second place with the trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past and its 153,000 views. The announcement of this expansion, set for 2027, alongside the remaster dropping September 29, has the community buzzing. The Polish studio also scooped up three Gamescom Awards, including Best Trailer. In third, Final Fantasy VII Revelation rounds out the podium with 54,000 views—a more modest number, partly because Square Enix shared the trailer across several official channels.
Just off the podium, fourth place goes to a title that caught everyone off guard, with 49,000 views—just a hair behind Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The full ranking paints a top four where legendary franchises and bold new IPs share the spotlight, alongside other ambitious RPGs unveiled at Gamescom this year.
A record-breaking event that proves the hype
These YouTube numbers are just one side of an event that smashed every record. Opening Night Live 2026, hosted by Geoff Keighley and Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere, saw its audience explode on every front. Beyond the 1.74 million concurrent viewers, the sheer scale was wild: the number of channels streaming the show jumped from 1,150 to 7,800—nearly seven times more. That reach explains the 5.8 million hours watched.
The showcase’s big reveals covered a wide spectrum:
- The Witcher 3 Remastered, coming September 29, 2026
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, expansion announced for 2027
- Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of the remake trilogy, expected spring 2027
- Metro 2039, the most-nominated game at the Gamescom Awards with five nominations
- Nodusfall, a brand-new IP revealed in a world premiere
The gap between the live show results and the YouTube ranking says a lot. Metro 2039, despite dominating the official nominations, didn’t even crack the top four most-watched videos. Meanwhile, Nodusfall tops the charts without winning a single award. YouTube views measure something different than critical acclaim—they capture raw curiosity, that irresistible urge to click and find out more.
This alternative barometer is a reminder: the real impact of a showcase isn’t just about peak live viewership. The fall season is looking stacked, with The Witcher 3 Remastered landing in September and the first gameplay footage for Nodusfall on the horizon. We’ll see in the coming weeks if YouTube hype turns into a full-blown phenomenon.
