PS5 Pro Hits $1,370 in France as GTA 6 Hype Sends Prices Soaring
$1,370 for a brand-new PS5 Pro on Amazon.fr. That’s not a typo—it’s the rock-bottom price in September 2026. And that’s if you can even find one: PlayStation Direct France is completely sold out.
Just like the PS2 back in the day, the PS5 Pro is turning into a collector’s item before it’s even had time to age. The shortage that hit Germany in late August has crossed the border, and now France is facing the same reality: bone-dry official store, $1,200 for used units on Amazon.fr, and new prices that rival a gaming PC. The memory crisis and the looming shadow of GTA 6 make for an explosive mix.

PlayStation Direct runs dry, Amazon.fr goes gold-plated
The PS5 Pro page on PlayStation Direct France leaves no room for doubt: the console is unavailable, with zero info on when it’ll be back. For buyers turning to Amazon.fr, it’s a cold shower. Used units start at $1,200, while new ones—shipping included—don’t dip below $1,370. That’s a far cry from the $799.99 launch price in November 2024, or even the last official price of $899.99.

France isn’t alone. The shortage is playing out across Europe: prices are skyrocketing everywhere as stock vanishes. Traditional retailers have nothing left at list price. Now it’s third-party sellers calling the shots, with markups that would make a 2020 scalper blush.
Germany hit first: up to $1,380 for a bundle
Across the Rhine, the situation’s been dire since late August and keeps getting worse. PlayStation Direct Germany shows the same “out of stock” message as France, and Amazon is quoting delivery times of 3 to 7 months—in other words, anyone ordering now won’t get their console before 2027. The reseller prices are dizzying:
- PS5 Pro alone on Idealo: starting at $999
- PS5 Pro from third-party sellers at Media Markt and Saturn: $1,299.99
- PS5 Pro + EA Sports FC 27 bundle: $1,379.99
These prices represent markups of up to 50% over the official $899.99 price. The French trajectory is almost a carbon copy of Germany’s, just a few weeks behind. There’s no sign Sony will be able to restock official channels anytime soon.
GTA 6 and the RAM crisis: the perfect storm
Two forces are colliding to drive this surge. First, the global memory shortage, fueled by the insatiable demand from AI data centers. Factories making RAM and SSDs are running full tilt for AI, leaving console makers with scraps. Sony has already raised the official PS5 Pro price several times to absorb rising component costs.
The second factor is all about timing—and it’s a big one. GTA 6 drops November 19, 2026, exclusively on consoles, and Sony says the game will be optimized for the PS5 Pro. Ever since 25 minutes of gameplay aired on August 27, demand has exploded. Gamers want the full GTA 6 experience in the best possible conditions, and many see GTA 6 Online as a long-term investment. Squeezed supply plus demand supercharged by the most anticipated game of the decade: the result is runaway prices.
With two months to go before GTA 6 launches, there’s no reason to expect PS5 Pro stock to recover. Every week brings the release closer and cranks up the price pressure. Anyone still hoping to snag the console at the official price may need to be very, very patient—or be ready to pay up, no questions asked.
