With the PS Blackout movement in full swing this week and Sony’s infamous 50-page email from the weekend still making waves, leaker billbil-kun has dropped the exclusive: the three games coming to PS Plus Essential on September 1. No AAA blockbusters here—just more fuel for those who’ve already canceled in protest over the end of physical games, set for January 2028.

Sniper Elite: Resistance — the only “recent” pick in the bunch
This is the one game that (sort of) saves face. Sniper Elite: Resistance, released January 30, 2025 by Rebellion Developments, is less than two years old—a rare breath of fresh air for PS Plus, which has mostly been recycling much older titles lately. But let’s be real: this is a AA game, not a $200 million blockbuster. The Sniper Elite series is a solid mid-tier staple, but it’s hardly the kind of headline act that’s going to win back subscribers in open revolt.
Gameplay-wise, it’s classic franchise formula: you play British agent Harry Hawker, sneaking through Nazi-occupied France in 1944 to help the Resistance take down a secret weapon. Third-person tactical shooting, X-ray kill cams, and stealthy infiltration make for a tried-and-true cocktail—but it’s nowhere near the system-seller Sony would need to calm the growing anxiety about PlayStation’s future.
Chained Echoes — the (almost) solo-developed retro RPG
Second up, Chained Echoes is a total genre shift. This 16-bit style RPG, released at the end of 2022, was almost entirely crafted by Matthias Linda alone—a feat that’s earned serious respect from critics and RPG fans alike. The fantasy continent of Valandis sets the stage for a group of heroes trying to stop a new war between three kingdoms, in a world that mashes up classic fantasy with hulking mechs.
Combat alternates between classic turn-based battles on foot and piloting giant machines—a welcome bit of variety. The nostalgic visuals will hit home for anyone who grew up with the Super Nintendo, while younger players get a dense, well-written RPG to discover. The catch? This game is almost four years old. For subscribers paying every month and hoping for something new, that’s a tough pill to swallow.
Wobbly Life — the family-friendly sandbox to chill out
The last entry in this September trio, Wobbly Life, is a total curveball. Released September 18, 2025, this open-world sandbox is all about lighthearted fun and slapstick humor. You play a wobbly, jelly-like character wobbling around a colorful island, taking on goofy odd jobs and mini-games with intentionally over-the-top physics. It’s co-op for up to four players—perfect for family game nights or goofing off with friends.
The timing’s on point, too: Wobbly Life will celebrate its first birthday right as it lands on PS Plus. But let’s be honest—this one’s for a pretty specific crowd and won’t do much to win over players in full-on boycott mode. Meanwhile, seven games are leaving the catalog on September 15, which only adds to the sense of lost value.
Sony is expected to officially announce this lineup tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26 at 5:30 PM. The three games will be available to claim from September 1 to October 6, 2026. Until then, August’s titles—Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition, Big Walk, and Signalis—are still up for grabs until September 1 at 9:59 AM. A September lineup with zero AAA games, right in the middle of PS Blackout week: it’s hard to imagine a worse time to try and win back lost subscribers.
