PS Plus: 7 Games Exit September 15 (and That’s No Accident)

These exits aren’t random: it’s all part of Sony’s secret playbook

Buzz Lightyear is about to hang up his wings. On September 15, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue and six other games will take their final bow on PS Plus—and this time, no one’s coming to save them to infinity and beyond.

The “Last Chance to Play” section of the PlayStation Store just got updated, confirming that seven titles are leaving the Extra and Premium catalogs. From Persona 5 Tactica to Madden NFL 26, these are some big losses—even if August’s new arrivals more than make up for it. But there’s a razor-sharp strategy behind these removals.

The 7 games leaving PS Plus on September 15, 2026

This list was first spotted by a Reddit user in the “Last Chance to Play” section of the PlayStation Store. It affects both Extra and Premium subscribers. The most notable departures? Persona 5 Tactica, the tactical spin-off from Atlus’s beloved series, and Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, a PS1 classic from 1999 that still boasts a 7.2 user score on Metacritic—pretty solid for a licensed game from that era. Over the years, it’s built up a real cult following, which explains why some fans are taking the news hard. “Why are they taking Buzz away from us?” one Redditor complained.

Here’s the full list of games leaving:

The catalog is still getting fresh additions though—Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams just joined Premium today, alongside Helldivers 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Vampire Survivors.

Why Toy Story 2 and Madden 26 are leaving now

These removals are anything but random. For Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, the timing is laser-precise: Disney/Pixar Toy Story: Retro Roundup! launches on September 15—the very same day the originals disappear. This remastered collection bundles four classic Toy Story games and A Bug’s Life, all updated for modern consoles. It’s tough for publisher Atari to justify giving away the originals for free when a shiny new version is hitting stores.

EA Sports is playing the same game. Madden NFL 26 is leaving because Madden 27 just dropped. Keeping last year’s edition free would just cannibalize sales of the new one—a classic move for annual sports franchises. As for the Shadowrun trilogy and Persona 5 Tactica, their exit is more about the usual catalog rotation: most games stick around for six to twelve months, and this fall is already packed with big PS5 releases.

What if you don’t have time to finish everything?

Four weeks isn’t much—especially if you’re juggling multiple games. The smart move: prioritize. Persona 5 Tactica easily clocks in at around 30 hours for the main campaign, so if you haven’t started yet, now’s the time. Toy Story 2 is a much quicker nostalgia trip—just a few hours to wrap up before it’s gone. The three Shadowrun games are solid tactical RPGs, but marathoning the whole trilogy before September 15 is a real challenge.

Good news if you don’t finish in time: your saves and trophies won’t disappear when these games leave the catalog. If you buy any of them later on the PS Store—especially during a future sale—all your progress will still be there. That should soften the blow a bit.

The next batch of PS Plus games for September hasn’t been revealed yet. The monthly free games should be announced next week for a September 1 launch, while new Extra and Premium titles will drop around the 15th—right as these seven games bow out. The rotation keeps spinning, and September is shaping up to be just as packed with arrivals as it is with departures.
